Retirees
Today (30th June 2009), Rams first-choice defensive midfielder, Norwegian Tim Korsmo retires at 33 years of age. He has decided to retire to spend more time with his family and learn more jobs in the football profession.
He joined the club on 5th May 2009 and played in 9 seasons for the Rams. He made 282 appearances during his time there scoring 13 goals and gaining 17 man of the match awards. He has been a key player in both the Rams defense and attack.
RamsTV spoke to manager Ryan and this is what he had to say: "It is, of course, a shame that Tim is retiring, but we fully respect his wishes to focus on other aspects of his life. He has been an amazing player for us and we wish him the best of luck for his and his family's futures.
Greig Crawford also has announced his retirement and will be featured in the next RamsLatest article.
Transfers
Korsmo's retirement brought the need for a new defensive midfielder to add to the team and therefore Turkish 31-year-old Sanli Okan was bought. He has already made several appearances for his new club and scored his first goal. He has been tipped to have a great future at the club. It was rumoured that 26-year-old Yemelyan Semiriaga was to have joined the club, but Okan was favoured over Semiriaga.
League and Cup Progress
After being relegated from Division 5 the previous system, the Rams were expected to be challenging at the top. The first day of Division 6 matches saw 2 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats, putting them only mid-table after the first day. In the FA Cup and Newcomers Challenge, the Rams successfully negotiated their opening 2 rounds of each cup.
The second day of matches brought a lot more success with 4 league wins out of 4 including a 7-1 victory over what was then top of the table, but that win put the Rams on top instead. The Rams' FA Cup run was over though in round 3, but in two more wins in the Newcomers Challenge put them in tomorrow's round 5 draw.
