Status of the new version

137362 Rasmus Bang Grouleff, Bangs United 6 June 2011, 12:53

Like we promised last week, we updated Virtual Manager to the new version last night (read all about it here: http://www.virtualmanager.com/forums/topics/867894-the-new-version-of-virtual-manager-is-ready). Everybody has probably noticed it.

Up until now it has unfortunately caused some problems with pages that were unavailable and texts containing strange characters. This happened because we updated the version of Ruby we use.

The new version of Ruby is handling texts differently than the old one. This meant we had to convert a lot of texts, and this conversion wasn't run as painless as when we tested it.

It looks as though we have been able to convert the texts correctly now. But we're still monitoring the site to see if there should be any problems from the conversion left.

We believe we have caught and fixed the most serious errors that affected the availability of the site, and we expect it to run smoothly again.

If, however, you stumble across errors, we would like to hear about them on http://www.virtualmanager.com/bugs and we will of course keep fixing them as quickly as possible.

We hope the inconveniences haven't been too great.

sorry to say but i dont really like this new update, i thought it looked better before because it doesnt look as tidy now and it kinda looks like everything's just been thrown about. The clubhouse tab is a good idea but i dont think it looks that good :/

Pretty good changes. Keep them coming. Btw when will we have a more detailed construction module for the stadium/ground?

Sorry, most of this is a repeat of a post in another post.

Ive not had a real real chance to take a look around but I have played with the contract renewal, an area I was worried you might screw up, but have to say ITS AWESOME

WHO DARES WINS

In the past I was scared to get promotion to Division 3 as the wages seemed to doube, but with this new wage negotiation it looks like I can progress my team without paying over the odds for my player.

One question though. Ive tried to negotiate a players wages and he has ended up asking for more, so I domt wish to proceed, so Ive left it (He still has a few days left till it expires). If I try again will it start from sctrach or will he start with this extortionate demand? (Basically what happened was that he started off asking for about 20% more than he was currently on, and after negotiations his demands were up to double his current wage.

Just had a closer look around and I like it but may I suggest two additions.

Im very happy with the players page showing total stats, but would it be OK to have a more advanced view where you get the whole teams individual stats by area on one page. Perhaps you could have a button marked "Advanced View" and that takes you to the old players page? My apologies, you have already smiley

The second change is on the clubhouse page. Im liking the preview. When you hover over a shirt it shows the players name, which IMO isnt very exciting or useful. Instead of just the name could we also include the players natural position and overall skill please?

Im not too worried about having to click lots of things as I make use of the quick links in the top right next to my club name. Please dont EVER get rid of that.

Question - I have a section called "Tired Players". Although I have no players listed here at what point would the system consider him "Tired"? I assume tired is differet from injured or suspended.

Kudos to you for the league information pages, especially the seedings pages. I know its not really important but its something I do check and now all the info is on the ame page. However, could we have the premium tag attacthed to the name more often, such as on this page and in the league table again? Please?

I have also found another problem with the update,

I have been updating my club profile for a long time and now it is pushed to one side by the "Press Releases."

Can the Press Releases be moved onto or below it?

Thanks. smiley

dont see the point in doing these updates if they are full of bugs. changing the graphics of banners and logos dont really help the game. change the graphics of matches if you have to update the game!!!!!

How do you start at the league page ?
I can get from clubhouse to league page if my next game is a league game, but not if its a cup game.

I must be missing a trick in my old age.

The easiest way I can find is to click on "My Club" and from that page, click on your league which should be about 4th down.

Club Name
Manager
Vifa Rank
League <<<<<<<

Sorry for the poor graphic to text interpretation

Since training instructions have no effect on the players on your team when you don't have VM Premium, you aren't worse off than before the update.

Lets get this straight
Before you could set training groups but the thing was you couldn't put them in affect as you already needed premium for this
so i can guarantee that your whole team if they were in a training group or not still trained as normal

So, you are basically saying that this update saves confusion.

You are in essence saying that people have been creating threads with threats to kill Rasmus over what is essentially a bug fix. OMG, Thats hilarious, who looks silly now? Certanly not Rasmus or any of the programmers. It looks as though they have been working hard to benefit us after all smiley

Non Premium members used to be able to set up training instrictions, but they had no effect. This in turn led them to believe that they had advanced training, when in fact they didnt.

I just checked a couple of non premium teams and can not confirm this to be true.

This is hilarious. It looks like a ot of non premium clubs have been employing a trainer to sit around drinking tea. In fact he was about as useful as the trainer at my last cub LOL

Thank you VM, not only have you brought us a good update, you have also brightened up my day smiley

this update did nothing to adding features just a make over for the sight
making clear that non premium members dont hire a trainer thinking its doing any good
so you should be thanking them not complaining the fact they help save credits for you and all non premium members

I'm afraid that having to pay to train players in this new version has convinced me that my time being entertained by VM is coming to an end in a few days. Didn't seem to by any warning that it was coming and i have players stuck on Set-Piece training and cannot change. Public relations disaster.

I think there should be a drop down box from Office and Clubhouse, so it is easier to access things conatined within them. I also don't really get it when the player tells you how long the contract goes for (?)

Actually this update has made things simpler. Let me try to explain.

Non premium clubs like yourself have never been able to make use of training groups. How ever, because the training group screen was available they all thought though you could.
What actually happened was that despite employing trainers, all the players trained on training match with no trainer. So in effect non premium clubs have been wasting credits employing trainers that have been doing nothing.

I notice you have a trainer for which you are paying over 5,000 credits a day for. If you now look at your players historical training data you will see that they have been training with no trainer.

So in effect this update has benefited non premium clubs (again) more since you can now save yourself from wasting 35,000 credits a season on something that has no effect.

Not being able to access the training groups offers no benefits to the premium clubs.

Its always sad to see the non premium clubs leave the game, as they do add depth to the game. However, I suspect that with over 100 new clubs signing up each day your protests will fall on deaf ears. Sorry.

Actually your explanation has indeed cleared it up and i have decided that i will continue. I'd love to be a premium member but unfortunately trying to put bread on a table is a priority and with the recent passing of my mother i have to inccur funeral costs. But as i say - thank you for the detailed explanation that makes sense to me. My trainer will now be sacked :-D Much appreciated my friend.

No no no, I must object

Where has all the historical Vifa points details that my assistat used to display. As far as Im concerned that was vital info used to apply for the best sponsorship deals.

You have taken away some very very useful information. That silly little graph does not cut it. Please bring back the information that I paid for via staff wages.

I know you said you have plas for assistants, but this update now makes him useless. You have removed information that I paid for.

I said "Over 100 members every day" not "100 members a day" there is a difference. I dont have access to the exact figures, its jut an estimate. Thee may be 1000 a day signups, but thats still over 100.

Im not refunding anyones wasted credits, its not my job.

If non premium members have been employing trainers over the last few years its not actually my fault. We make enough forum posts to tell them. This update now means its impossible to get a trainer without premium.

I find it interesting that you comment on a post thats 10 days old in a disagreeing manner when the person whom I aimed that at now considers my comments helpful and we are now friends outside of VM smiley
