Road to WCTF Checkpoint 2

Written 5 May 2024, 10:17

Mission Statement:

Coming back after a long break in January I set myself a single goal in my return: Get to the WCTF. These checkpoints every couple of weeks will serve as progress markers towards that goal.

Estimated Progress:

Estimated Completion:
  • Optimistic Guess: November 2024 (~6 months)
  • Reasonable Guess: February 2025 (~9 months)
  • Super Conservative Guess: May 2025 (~12 months)

How it started:

When I started I had about 2 million banked because I went nuclear on resources before quitting last time and upgraded a bunch of pointless stands. I was already at PTF and VMAN Lab so in short the goal is +98 million credits

Available achievement money on this journey: 2.25 million for being above 75 million (guaranteed to hit this), 1.25 million if my player value ever surpasses 100 million (unlikely). Other achievements like playing in top leagues are not expected but a welcome influx.

How it's going:

I current have ~10 million banked and around 44 million credits worth of players in the squad that are not homegrown, another 8 million credits of youth players also will now factor in to the calculations. Using a similar metric to before where taking 75% of the squad's value to be retrievable value in auctions the return for a full squad sale could be estimated to be in the region of 39 million.

With those figures in mind the progress currently sits at around 50 million or 50% of the way there. Comparing this to three weeks ago we see that significant progress has been made, around 20 million more compared to 3 weeks ago. If this pattern were to continue it is theoretically possible to achieve the end goal within 3 months.

Ticket revenue, sponsorship and media rights came to around 1.5 million these past 2 seasons, the current daily wage is ~52,000. Weekly profit in the region of 1 million accounting for wages and infrequent repairs. If no other factors come into play the goal is achievable in about 1 year

Major Successes:
  • Lots of quick turnarounds for profit margins of ~500k
  • Maintaining profit consistently across multiple positions
  • Overall across the last ~60 significant transfers the ROI has been around 126% (81 mil spent, 103 mil returned)
  • Youth squad has a much brighter future since abandoning the all homegrown
  • With one exception the youth squad has been training at a more consistent rate, just slightly under talent level on average (multiple talents within that but many in the low 100s)

Major Frustrations:
  • Very difficult to find good value purchases on auction this week
  • Wide players are risky, my worst returns have been on DL, DR, ML and MR
  • Forwards are incredibly slow to flip
  • Too many players become available right before their value takes a dive (e.g. 24 today)

What's Next:
  • Continuing to attempt to flip players for 80% or more of their value, the long they've been at the club the more of any value losses that can be written off by gate receipts
  • Senior Squad needs multiple midfielders, a right back and one backup forward
  • Youth Squad is primarily waiting on midfield to strengthen over time, rating growth is slow there and most players are 16
  • Primary focus will be in the 20 to 28 range for players where they can maintain value for multiple seasons
