Pistols at Dawn

Those keeping up with me, will have probably deduced from the title, that this release, is about shootouts. Yes, those dreaded Penalty Kicks.
A lot of people dislike shootouts. I'm not in that camp, I absolutely love them. The drama, passion, and nerves involved get me hooked. I love watching them, even when not supporting either side. It's a simple enough prospect, but when you're fourth man up to the spot, needing to score to keep your side in with a chance, it's all of a sudden a different ball game. Even though it isn't.
I like taking penalties too, I play football a bit with my friends, and often, after a kickabout, we have a Penalty competition, where everyone takes a turn in goal, and everyone takes three penalties at each keeper. Highest scorer at the end wins. I even enjoy being in goal facing them, though I appreciate, at a higher level of play, it can't be any fun watching someone have a free shot at you from twelve yards. Though the competitions we have are tremendous fun, and extremely competitive, we all want to win. Haha.
I've once scored 53 consecutive from the spot. Though one of my friends must claim the top honour, Twelve saves in a row, from a couple of quite good takers. Always harder to save them than score, I feel.
Nothing else to this one, but if anyone else has some thoughts on Penalty Kicks, feel free to add them.
All the best~

I find that taking penalties is far easier than anyone claims, but then I haven't played in front of 80,000 people and everyone on camera. And that would make a big difference. To score I always pick a place and hit it firmly into that place, I never change half way through taking the shot. I find that going one way most of the time helps but changing it up now and again to keep them guessing.

Certainly I feel that saving is easier than shooting. I have nothing to lose and I know that they won't try and hit me as I would easily be able to save it.

All my thoughts for penalties... smiley

Whether in goal, or on the spot, it's all about being Ice Cool and holding your nerve.

There is more pressure to score so you have to be even cooler when taking I find.
