Updates coming next week

Bubbles, FC Sunnyvale Developer 2 May 2014, 15:53

We're still quite busy with a number of tasks that are not directly visible in the game, but next week there'll be a number of changes in the game.

Substitutions

The long awaited fix for pre-match substitutions will go live next week.

As I've mentioned earlier, we've already implemented a much smarter selection of substitutes that occur in the middle of the match, such that we always pick the best possible replacement for an injured player - at least, when you haven't set up your own specific substitution rules.

The same selection algorithm is now finally ready to also be applied to the substitutions that are made before the match starts - that is, when players in the starting lineup are injured or suspended.

Updated rules

It is important that our crew members have a solid set of rules to adhere to, so that there is never any doubt about the correct course of action.

Therefore, we have been working with the crew to clarify our rules and bring them up to date. These new rules will take effect next week.

Bot clubs will get proper names

The bot clubs perform a very important function in Virtual Manager: When a new user signs up for the game, we don't actually create a new club for them. Instead, they take over control of a bot club which is already playing in a league. This way, new users won't have to sit around and wait until the following Monday after they have joined, before they get to play matches.

However, the names of the bot clubs do look somewhat dull when you look through the lower leagues.

We have found an easy way to avoid that, though: We have downloaded a database of place names for each of the countries we have leagues in. These names will be used as a basis for randomly generated team names for the bot clubs. Hopefully this will make the lower league tables look a bit less bleak.

Have a nice weekend
