Red letter day for Newcastle football

Written 26 February 2023, 14:13

On what is a red letter day for Newcastle football, Newcastle U FC won its ninth (!) 1st division title in VM, and it’s very first Super Cup victory too! A mouth-watering, extraordinary treble was within touching distance too, the Portugal Cup seeing Newcastle beaten in the final 0-1 by https://www.virtualmanager.com/squads/238949 Molle Allstars, who managed a single shot on target all game. Newcastle's league successes saw them climb back into the top #5 of all VM teams too.

The Super Cup is VM’s inter-league winners’ cup competition and this was the club’s first ever appearance in the final. Newcastle managed to beat VM teams ranked #1 (FC Firklover) and #3 (Atlanta Hawks), both with 0-1 away victories, on their way to the final, where they met #10th ranked https://www.virtualmanager.com/squads/27071, winning 3-1 with goals from Gil, Decrusch and Bittmann, all 3 Newcastle forwards finding the net. In the league, the club’s 9th top flight success was secured with 19 wins and 8 draws, the club’s Brazilian hero https://www.virtualmanager.com/players/15135779-gonalves-gil topping the goals table with 19.

Later today Newcastle’s other team https://www.nufc.co.uk/ will play Manchester United in the Carabao Cup Final in Wembley. As with Newcastle U FC in VM’s Super Cup, NUFC has never won that competition before, only once getting to the final (1976) and not winning any major English domestic trophy at all since 1955, an extraordinary 68 years! Hopefully the club’s 2 Brazilian stars Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes can emulate Gonvales Gil and bring home a second elusive trophy today to Tyneside.
