AFC Wimbledon achieve 5th in top flight

Written 12 August 2018, 18:59

A F C Wimbledon have now completed our first season in the top flight, and needless to say it went very well. We finished an originally unpredicted 5th place in Greece’s 1 Division. This included 12 wins, 10 draws and 8 losses. My initial target was to stay up and avoid relegation however, my tactics, which I put extra care into this season seemingly worked very well, with my club beating many higher rated teams. Of the games this season some notable ones include my first ever top flight game, which I won 3-0 against FC Jensenkk, a 0-0 draw in my away fixture against FC HimmelBold (a team consisting of mostly 90+ rated players) and a 4-0 victory against 1. Division rival Bleeds in the 4th round of the Greek Cup.

Along with league sucess, I also achieved my clubs record finish in the domestic cup last season, winning 4-0 against Bleeds in the Greek Cup 4th round as mentioned above I was sent through to the 5th round, where I lost 3-1 to Hirtshals B, a Division 2 team which has gained promotion to 1. Division this season. Whilst I was disappointed with the loss meaning I was prevented from advancing to the quarterfinals, the 5th round of a domestic league cups is a good result and A F C Wimbledon earned 190,000 C from prize money. Obviously, Cup success is hard to predict due to the luck draw of whom you play and whether or not you are home or away however next season my goal will again be to reach the quarterfinals.

Next season I will be aiming for a top 6 finish in the league. Whilst I did finish 5th last season this could be a fluke, I would be satisfied with a top half (top 8) finish though I will specifically aim to maintain the top 6 status. I felt my tactics last season were a success and unless any unexpected transfers occur this Sunday A F C Wimbledon will go into next season with the squad they ended last week with. Not only did my tactics work but I felt my methods of energy preservation were a huge success and a major contributing factor to the 5th place finish by purposely playing a weaken side, losing many games so that I could focus on improving my odds to win key, specific games. Because my VIFA rank has increased to #164 I am now eligible to play in the Virtual Manager World Cup for the first time, however I do not intend on advancing past the 1st round and instead wish to focus on league and domestic cup success.

Dependant on initial success next season I will probably at some point have to upgrade my stadium. As my VIFA rank and thus fans have increased due to being in and success in 1. Division I have now increased the ticket prices to 9C, however I am not consistently selling out unless playing top clubs, once maximum utilisation starts to occur I will be forced to invest 12,000,000 C into expanding my stadium so I can optimise ticket revenue, adding an extra 10,200 seats – bringing the capacity of Kingsmeadow to 30,200. This season my ticket revenue stood at 2,695,143 C up from 1,830,574 C last season. I hope to grow this further and achieve over 3,000,000 C in ticket revenue next season.

Whilst last week I invested around 20 Million into my squad in order to ensure I could compete and stay up in the top flight this week I have not invested much into players. By the time this is published, Wolfgang Dosch (rated 91) will have been sold for aproximatly 6 million. Whilst he is the best player at the club, with 10 MOTM awards last season and was a record singing for just under 5 million he is aging and if I am going to spend 12 Million on upgrading my stadium to ensure future club growth I can’t have the liability of having so much money invested in a single player retire. I did make some minor singings during the week, most notably Aimhirghin Rowland, who scored 11 goals in 23 games at the cost of 2.9 Million credits.

As for my finances this season, I’ve had an income of 22,362,927 C, down around 6 million from last week however my expenditure is way down with just -9,637,686 C spent, a drop of around 20 million. This has resulted in a 12,725,241 C profit for this season, mostly due to selling excess players and a lack of activity spending, though as I write this I have only made one transfer this Sunday, which is normally my busiest transfer period. Therefore, this leaves me with a balance of 17,088,798 C.

In summary I was overwhelmed by the success of my club last season, finishing 5th in the top flight, A F C Wimbledon’s best finish ever along with our most successful cup run, being knocked out in the 5th round. I felt we were the underdogs in the league, with my starting XI costing just 23 Million vs the league average of 101 Million. Next season I aim to achieve a top 6 finish (or at least finish top 8) in the league and to go one further in the Cup, reaching the Quarterfinals for the 1st time. At the current point, I’ve not made any major improvements to my squad as I intend of potentially increasing my stadium capacity by 10,200 seats, which has a cost of 12,000,000 C.

Thanks for reading.

Hello 12 August 2018, 19:12
Next season will be intresting with the sale of my top player, without such a strong Goalkeeper (who effectively carried my team at times) it will be a struggle at times next season and prehaps a top 6 finish would be very optimistic however I feel this makes financial sense and was a required move in order to expand the club in the future and ensure long term sucess.
