Final Whistle

Happy(?) New Year 2021!!

Written 2 January 2021, 22:58

Our club was long overdue for a press conference but with the 2020 reaching an end a lot of planning was done for the forthcoming year and we didn't have time to celebrate a great year that will surely remain in our club's history, after reaching the WCTF milestone and upgrading stadium to 57.800 places.

The Season, 2020-51 we've switched leagues, choosing Italy as destination and we were placed in 1st division where we managed to secure only the 15th place. There was a reward for reaching this division, that we hoped we could achieve if not in the first season in the following 3-4:
Reward for achieving an objective.

First Senior Cup Final!

Not only that, but we've managed to reach the Italy Cup Final for the first time with the Senior team.

Losing was expected but in the end it was a close encounter against SILKEBONG which fielded a 98+ rated lineup

They eventually secured the win, 3-1, with 60% ball possesion and 8/4 vs 3/3 Shots/Shots on target

Main decisive factor eventually seemed to be the Keeper's performance, mine had a 4 match rating while his had 10. The difference between oponent's forwards and our keeper's skills were too great, around 12-18%.

The reward for reaching the final was a mere 690.000 credits:

While not negligeable, our team would have won better had the matches played at home were evenly distributed, however we only played 2 matches at home and 4 away, including the final, for wich our oponent secured at least 600k in stadium income in addition to the first prize. Surely this will turn in our favor in the future seasons but more than likely in very early stages where we can't secure as high an attendance as the one possible this match.

As of today, the club standing is as follows:
Balance
13,392,230 Credits

Vifa rank
#252 (enough -if maintained- to secure a place in the next season's Virtual Manager World Cup)

Total player value
206,065,682 C - First time reaching 200M (seems there is no bonus up to the 250M objective)

Now that the good news were shared, switching to the bad ones.
35yo, 79 rated Keeper that we've bought previous to switching leagues and the Cup final has decided to end his career. Brought in for a mere 800k, he was a good deal despite his big salary: https://www.virtualmanager.com/players/13375839-tummas-vestergaard
Previously Senior's Keeper https://www.virtualmanager.com/players/13669253-andreas-koutsoumpou brougth in for 2.2M has already surpassed him in ability at 30yo and has featured in the 1st eleven for the last week, which may have disgruntled Tummas and forced him to retire early. We are sad to see him go, we were expecting another 500K off of auctioning him but we waited for to long hoping to repeat the Cup performance which only resulted in a Quarter final the second time around, netting us another 480k, in total more than what we payed for him.

It now seems the prizes were payed twice for Season 2020-52, is it a bug or a feature:

Anyhow, we take it and hope for more :-) this was an unexpected good news that passed on not noticed up until this press conference drafting.

Another bad news and an even bigger blow is the retiring of 32yo 79 rated FL https://www.virtualmanager.com/players/13559288-elchin-qurbanov that has been with us for more than a year. He is the club's current legend, having played for the team for 1568 matches and scored 911 goals:
Time Price Matches Goals Avg. rating
2019-11-04 50,000 C 1568 911 7.2
Althouhg not the highest skill in the team, he had a big role in promoting the team in the 1st division for the first time in our club's small history and our supporters will not forget him easily. Scouted and brought for only 50k he is one of the best deals in club's history despite not being sold. We were hoping for another 2 months of playing time out of him while we would have found and trained a replacement, which as it stands will cost us some 4M additionally. But since we got him for basically free, we prefered not to sell a club legend and retain him as long as he wanted to play. We'll comemorate his contribution to the club by naming the North stand as 'Elchin Qurbanov' Stand.

Another older player ( https://www.virtualmanager.com/players/13546553-germogen-ukhtomsky )will soon leave the club, he was supposed to be on Auction but due to a bug he could not be auctioned at 23:59 and has to wait before finding out his next club. Despite his long time playing for the club, his average rating of 5.9 only make him a usefull club player and not a legend, and at 32,5yo we thought it was time for a change. Brought in to replace him is 30yo 89 rated https://www.virtualmanager.com/players/13674356-geert-graaf brought in for just under 6M. We expect great things from him, with his 100 Tacking and 91 speed and 88/89 Acceleration/Stamina. Hopefully we can get him to 90 rating and a gold star, which would be a premiere for our small club. If we don't manage to sell him for 2+M profit he'll stay with the club for another 2 and a half seasons during which he will have surely repaid the investment in him, if not sooner.

With positive cash flow for a few months now, and only a few players needing replacement at a time we still look out for opportunities to improve our team, more specifically around the midfield where we only have one good MO and decent/sub-par for the rest of the field which will surely not allow us to promote or resist in 1st division for the next 2-3 months.

Hopefully we'll find out some good deals and raise the average to over 85 rating as soon as possible.
No other investments are planned for the near future unless our scouts will find Promising/Formidable 15yo to buy. On this note we've hired 2 more scouts that we've discovered las year but were deemed not essential at the time: https://www.virtualmanager.com/clubs/1284162/press_releases/132246 , with only 20/17/20 skills
53yo Quadir Maiwand, https://www.virtualmanager.com/employees/10695914
54yo Prince Bonna https://www.virtualmanager.com/employees/10741798
Hopefully the additional 'firepower' in the scouting department will be exploited to find more untrained and promising+ players to buy at low prices as 3 were clearly not enough to compete with the rest of the top clubs.

We finish the year with 8 class players (2 of them retiring) and a trophy cabinet as follows:

Let's hope for a good year with less retired players and good fortunes, that I wish also to you!
Have a great 2021!!
