2019-40: Survival!

Written 8 October 2019, 11:44

The 2019-40 marked another milestone in Lokomotive Bryggen’s history. For the first time, Bryggen managed to survive in the Bundesliga but it came down to the wire. Halfway through, Bryggen has amassed an impressive 21 point, but as seen before, the second half didn’t go as well. Bryggen ended with 35 points along with three other teams and one of them had to be relegated. Bryggen had a goal differential of minus 1, which proved enough for another season in the highest German league. Horsedammen FC was left holding the baby with a goal differential of minus 8. German Head Coach Sepp Piontek is obviously happy about how things went: “But of course. Wir wollen progress sehen and we did that again. This team is taking small steps forward every season genau wie wir es geplant haben”

At the end of the season, two changes to the team were made. Finnish right defender Mauno Nurmela took over for Swedish team captain Otto Åstrøm, who left the team after 461 games. Nurmela was actually bought as a developing player two season ago for 4.9M, and as Åstrøm approached 31 years of age, Nurmela was ready to take over at right back. The captaincy was passed on the Belgian central defender Scifo

Austrian Midfielder Bietak (210 games) was shown the door and replaced with Swiss number 10, Petronio Baumli.

Financially the 2019-40 season was a disaster. Head Treasurer Enid Ford A’Kash explains: “The market was extremely dry and even our seasoned Chief Dealer Lick Neeson had a hard time squeezing money out of that. We made 3.2M in the market, which is the lowest number in 16 seasons. Our total result was 6.5M, which is obviously very disappointing”

The goal for 2019-41 season is the same as last year: Survival. This is going to be as tough as always, and we are looking forward to the season

I've been doing good financially. However I look for lower rated/valued players. Hopefully next season can result in better stats. smiley
