Lokomotive Bryggen

2019-42: Cup semifinal

Written 22 October 2019, 13:01

For the third season in a row, Lokomotive Bryggen managed to avoid relegation and as such, season 2019-42 was a success. There was a little regress however, as the season’s point total was 35 opposed to 41 the season before. Even more depressing is the fact that Bryggen only scored 21 goals in its 30 league matches. A good defense made sure, that Bryggen stayed in the Bundesliga despite the poor attacking.

The overshadowing event of the season was that Bryggen was able to get into the semifinals of the DBF-Pokal, losing with a single goal to Klovn IF – one of the two dominating clubs in Germany. Head Coach Sepp Piontek: “Dass war ein great experience. With a little bit of Glück, we could have gone into extra time, and wer weisst what would have happened then?”

Lokomotive Bryggen earned 9.3M in season 2019-42. “The market is still rather dry”, Head Treasurer Enid Ford A’Kash explains, “but for the first time in club history, we made over 5M at the gates, so we have got that going for us”

At the end of the season, Bryggen brought in a new central attacker. For a bit over 6M, Israeli Ephraim Weil joined Bryggen from FC San Sebastian to replace Frenchman Lassana Fumon (212 goals in 386 matches for Bryggen). Weil has just turned 29 and is very happy about the move: “My biggest dream has always been to play in the Bundesliga, so I am very satisfied, that Bryggen saw something in me. In Hobbs, Bramskov and myself, I think we have a very dangerous attacking unit, and I can’t wait to get on with the new season”

We wish Lokomotive Bryggen the best of luck in season 2019-43, in which - once again - avoiding relegation will be the primary goal.
