2020-01: Plummeting down the rankings

Written 6 January 2020, 15:07

Season 2020-01 was a bumpy ride for Lokomotive Bryggen with seven defeats, but in the end promotion to the Bundesliga was secured seven points clear of third place. “We are still not where we want to be, and next season will be tough, aber wir are moving in the right direction”, Head Coach Piontek said. Playing in the second Division obviously awards fewer points to the VIFA rankings, and Bryggen finished the season in 166th place. Compare that to the 48th place that Bryggen had only three seasons ago, and it should be clear to everyone that Bryggen is in a transition fase.

Close to the end of the season, Faroese central striker Erlendur Annfinsson was suddenly fired and replaced with 29 year old Italian Buonamico Paganin (8.0M). Annfinsson scored 27 goals in 67 matches for Bryggen but apparently that was not good enough for Piontek, who refused to comment on the matter. Paganin played the last two games of the season and found the net three times so it’s an promising investment for sure.

Even with lower attendance and lower sponsor and media money, Lokomotive Bryggen managed to bring home 11.9M during the season, so at least financially the season was a success.
