2020-19: Bryggen can't close

Written 11 May 2020, 11:22

Once again Lokomotive Bryggen found themselves in a trophy awarding spot with three games left. Once again the last three games only netted four points and another 5th place finish was the outcome. That is the 10th straight time, Bryggen has finished 5th, 6th or 7th in a top league.

Three games into the season, Mexican right midfielder Victor Lorca (3 goals in 125 games) was sold to Brians Brigade, a competitor in the Bundesliga. The transfer prize of 18M resulted in a net profit of 5M - by far the largest profit, Head of Trading Lick Neeson has ever made. Lorcas replacement was found in the American Major League to the tune of 15M: 28 year old Iranian Mohammad Al-Nawas is Bryggens new number 8.

A few games further into the season another change happended, this time in the defensive midfield. Austrian Veit Fritz (338 matches) was replaced with 27 year old Scotchman Iain Kelly (17M). The sale of Fritz was another 2.5M in profits.

In the post season two changes to the defence took place: Dane Viggo Stockholm and Lithuanian Leonas Encius (377 and 125 games respectively) were sold shortly before their 31st birthdays and replaced with Slovakian Allan Skutka (10M) and Albanian international Lorik Dervishi (20M). Skutka is the new team captain.

During the season, English striker Dexter Hansbury played his game number 500 as a Lokomotive Bryggener. Only six other people in history has experienced that.

The sales of Stockholm and Encius realized some big losses so despite the profitable sales of the midfielders, the financial statement showed a plus of only 6.2M

With four new and younger players in the starting line-up, we can't see Bryggen playing for trophies again this season. We expect a finish around 6th to 9th place

You should really consider a better Captain, for me it seems to make a big difference, and it's the reason I keep a 32yo player in the squad for longer than expected, since I haven't been able to find a suitable replacement.
Switching from 76 leadership & 60 perseverence to 92 leadership & 83 perseverance was a game changer, managed to finish 4th in 2nd division despite having a 7-9th best rated team.

Thanks for the tip. I'll consider that. My new captain is actually a lot better than the old one so maybe I'll see some effect already this season
