Lokomotive Bryggen

2020-33: Another lost cup final

Written 17 August 2020, 12:10

Season 2020-33 started more or less catastrophical for Lokomotive Bryggen. The team lost four of its first five games including two defeats to newly promoted teams. Head Coach Sepp Piontek got the players back on track, but it was too little, too late. Bryggen finished in a dissapointing 8th place. Some success was to be found in the DFB-Pokal, but Bryggen lost the final at Valencias home turf. Bryggen is now 0 for 5 in cup finals.

Three matches into the season, Englishman Jack Wilshere was brought to Bryggen Arena for an astonishing 25M. That was Bryggen's largest transfer ever paid. Wilshere replaced Israeli Efram Abramsky (254 games, 9 goals) at left midfield.

That transfer record only stood for six games. Faroese international Knut Lervig replaced H.V. Badescu (51 matches, 1 goal) at right midfield to the tune of 26M.

Bryggen came out of the season with a result of 11.25M

Lokomotive Bryggen now has 8 players in the starting 11 with a rating of 90 or above. 7th and 8th place finishes has to stop now! There are a plentitude of good teams in the Bundesliga so medals is by no means a guarantee. But surely Bryggen has to be in contention to the very end. Everything out of Top 5 will be a great dissapointment.
