Lokomotive Bryggen

2020-48: Best financial result in history

Written 30 November 2020, 11:48

Lokomotive Bryggen was in contention in the Greek 1st Division as well as the Greek Cup for most of the 2020-48 season. Then the club suddenly decided to sell its best player, central defender Darvydas Grisley for 21.5M. Since that is an exorbitant amount of money for a 30 year old defender, we fully understand the deal. But that sale probably had a lot to do with Bryggen only getting bronze in the league as well as getting eliminated in the cup semifinals. Bryggen played the rest of the games in a 343 formation and still haven't found a replacement for the Lithuanian.

In the off-season, a Swiss goalkeeper was replaced with a Swiss goalkeeper. 29 year old Rolf Spycher left for 22M and in came 27 year old Erwin Portmann to the tune of 25.4M. Portmann is not quite as strong as Spycher yet, but getting two years younger on the position for only 3.4M seems like an extremely good deal by Chief Dealer Lick Neeson.

23 year old Norwegian Knut Mosvoll from Bryggen's Academy was sold for 8M during the season. Knut has been with the club since his 15th birthday and that sale was a new record for one the club's own youngsters. A consequence of the transaction was that  Head Treasurer Enid Ford A'Kash could present the best financial result ever: +22.2M!

Icelandic midfielder Vagnsson has just turned 31, so he will very likely be sold very early in the season (and replaced with Belgian Olivier Felix - mentioned in last season's presser). Add to that the uncertainty surrounding Grisley's successor, and we can't see Bryggen competing for medals again this season. We expect a finish in the 5th-8th range.
