Katherines United

Goodbye Elridge de Bruijn

Written 20 September 2013, 13:35

And so the time comes again for us to say goodbye to one of our most distinguished players. This time it is Elridge de Bruijn, our veteran goalkeeper and highest-rated player ever who has just announced his retirement. When he finishes his career on the 30th (which, incidentally, is the day I start university), he'll have played over 2,200 games for us, and remains (as far as I am aware) the only Katherines player to have been called up by his country.

Of course, every cloud has a silver lining, and to replace Elridge I pulled out all the stops and made a record signing: Albanian Ermend Berisha for £600,000. He has the potential to far exceed Elridge so I'm excited about watching him grow. Soon, I shall also have to say goodbye to our esteemed captain Hafhidar Bentsson, who's also drawing close to retirement age...again, stops will be pulled out to replace him as our midfield is already inexperienced and weak.

Until the next press release.
