Road to WCTF Checkpoint 1

Written 13 April 2024, 10:15

Mission Statement:

Coming back after a long break in January I set myself a single goal in my return: Get to the WCTF

Estimated Progress:

Estimated Completion:
  • Optimistic Guess: December 2024 (~8 months)
  • Reasonable Guess: April 2025 (~12 months)
  • Super Conservative Guess: October 2025 (~18 months)

How it started:

When I started I had about 2 million banked because I went nuclear on resources before quitting last time and upgraded a bunch of pointless stands. I was already at PTF and VMAN Lab so in short the goal is +98 million credits

Available achievement money on this journey: 2.25 million for being above 75 million (guaranteed to hit this), 1.25 million if my player value ever surpasses 100 million (unlikely). Other achievements like playing in top leagues are not expected but a welcome influx.

How it's going:

I currently have about 2 million banked and around 37 million credits worth of players in the squad excluding home grown players which contribute another 6 million in value. Realistically if I were to sell the entire squad right now I would probably make about 25-30 million so we're looking at roughly 25% of the way there. If everyone goes for the values they are transfer listed for then that number rises to around 40 million. Ultimately this is complete guess work but being 25% of the way there sounds between than 2% of the way there for 3.5 months of effort

Playing one season in the top division in Brazil definitely gave some good gate revenue (2 mil), a usual season is around 1.2 to 1.5 million with weekly wages coming to around 0.5 million. Allowing an average of 0.1 mil per season for repairs that means the average profit per season with no player trades would be 0.6 to 0.9 million. Going exclusively off revenue it would take 100 seasons to reach WCTF (Assuming that I require 75 million and we average out profit to 0.75 million per season)

Major Successes:
  • One of the first youths I created went for 5 million
  • Dobbs Hall is going to be a very valuable defender with his consistently high training
  • Player Flipping via the transfer list has been a good strategy to maximise income and minimize risk (In the best case I make 0.5 mil, in the worst case that player is valuable to me in my team)
  • Picking up 7 points in the top league in Brazil with a team that was rated 63 against teams rated 75+

Major Frustrations:
  • Other youth talents have been disappointing, I have given up on trying to make a fully home grown team in the long term. I know it's out of my control but I do wish I had more players consistently in the 120-140 range for training instead of talents that occasionally just get a pitiful 78xp on training match and flicker between T and regular player
  • Player auctions almost exclusively start at half the player value now, players are frequently being sold very close to aging up where their value will plummet - obviously this is just other players trying to maximise their own income but it makes finding deals more time consuming

What's Next:
  • Giving up on the home grown strategy for the time being. I will integrate good youths that come through but I am planning to phase out any players training under 110, I have already culled those averaging below 100. As long as I have a small rotation of players coming through from youth I should be able to cut required costs on players and look for higher profit margins rather than players that are necessary to fill gaps
  • Aim for 80%+ ROI on players that have played for many seasons when they start to reach 28-30 years old or as I bring in younger replacements, profit is preferred but wherever possible preserve as much value as I can
  • Work on improving training scores in the youth team - hitting the 15% penalty far too often but then even when I do training matches I seem to get streaks of horrible training too (I have seen the standard training guide but I want to form my own opinions and customize to my squad instead)
  • Senior Squad: Bring in new DR, ML and FR, the current oldest in my squad, try to offload the aging players that already have replacements lined up, try to offload the previously mentioned positions when I find suitable replacements
  • Youth Squad: Bring in players 16-19 with high training, currently GK, DC and FR are 6 months away from potentially being integrated into the senior squad
