Rurak smashes record as Diamonds top league!

Diament Garwolin have strolled through Division 5 Group 6 in their inaugural season in the Netherlands, finishing top of the league with an astonishing +115 goal difference and 81 points. Among many records set in this incredible season, the Diamonds new Ukrainian number 1, Matviy Rurak, did not concede for a total of 2337 consecutive minutes, only capitulating in the 87th minute of the final game of the season.

Rurak's shut-out spell has obliterated the previous best, set by Igor "Iron Curtain" Leschova, which stood at 1113 minutes and was established all the way back in 2011!
Admittedly, the Garwolin keeper has been well shielded by the rest of his team, and has faced only a measly 13 shots on target in the 26 games he's played. We asked him about the remarkable record:

The Daily Diamond: "Matviy, on average you have only had to react to a shot every other match! What do you do in that goal all game?"

Matviy Rurak: "I often use the time to meditate and do a bit of yoga at the edge of my six yard box. The mental game has to be kept sharp no matter the situation on the field. Admittedly, recently I've been sneaking a little notebook in my sock... I usually look out for clouds with interesting shapes, and doodle them. Soon I'll have enough drawings to open an art gallery"

Well there you have it folks, cloud doodle gallery coming to a stadium near you!

As usual, we also asked the legendary club manager Lord Radz for his take on this season.

Lord Radz: "Well with no disrespect to the opposition, it's clear the Dutch Division 5 is no match for a club of our standing. We just have too much quality in the side. This has been a warm-up for the real challenge in Division 4, as well as the cup competitions. We'll be looking to settle ourselves into a mid-table position and build from there. Nevertheless I'm proud of all the lads, Qachay [Abbasov] has been scoring for fun, Tornike and Nika have once again bossed the midfield, and with the young guns like Balicki and Predrag firing on all cylinders, the future is looking bright indeed."

We hope to see some more of this dominating football as the Diamonds battle it out in Division 4 Group 3. The youth team has also come top in their league and will be in the U23 Division 4 next season. Up the Diamonds!
