Diamonds hold London Gordons to draw at home!

In a surprising but jubilant turn of events, Diament Garwolin have become the first team this season to take points off the league leaders!

The London Gordons have so far been breezing through Division 4. They can be considered among the biggest clubs in the world, having previously competed at the highest tier of football in multiple countries, as well as winning the FA Cup. Their current squad boasts the world-class Russian international Yasha Uritski at left-back, Eredivisie-level forward Qartlos Demetradze, as well as other class players who wouldn't look out of place competing for promotion to the top division.

Having suffered a heavy 6-1 defeat to the Gordons last time around, Lord Radz adjusted his formation, fielding a more conventional back 4 as opposed to the usual 3, to neutralise wide threats from Demetradze and Mariano, who had simply had too much space in the first fixture. Ahead of them, veteran Nika Zviadauri played as a deep lying playmaker, with young midfielders Loladze and Sneana either side, and Vachnadze in an advanced role just behind 2 strikers. This resulted in a narrow 4-1-2-1-2, leading to stability at the back and a lot of control through the middle.

The Diamonds enjoyed surprising levels of possession in the opposition half early on. Eventually, in the 16th minute, after a scramble in the London box, Viana was slow to get rid of the ball upfield on the edge of the 6 yard box, and high-pressing Abbasov slid in at his feet, dispossessing the hapless defender and bundling the ball into the net past Magaedha! The stadium erupted in joyous disbelief!

London Gordon's seemed to get a grip after that, but despite piling on the pressure, couldn't find a way through and the Diamonds went in 1-0 up at halftime.

After the break, the Gordons continued to press for the equaliser and eventually got it through Cordoso's beautiful long range drive.

The league leaders had smelled blood and went ahead in the 71st minute after Gorczinski was dispossessed while playing the ball out of defence, and punished by Hipolito Mariano's accurate strike.

At this point, it looked like Lord Radz' men could only hope for damage limitation and would get beaten despite their valiant battle.

However, in a twist worthy of Hollywood, a final surge through the midfield in the 87th minute saw Tornike Vachnadze hacked down in the Gordons' box! The referee did not hesitate, pointing straight to the spot! There were hushed whispers in the stadium as the veteran offensive midfield stepped up to claim revenge - after all, he has had less than a stellar season so far, with only 1 assist and no goals to his name. Any doubts were proved to be unfounded though, as he confidently fired the ball into the top right corner!

This unexpected result may lead Lord Radz to test the new formation in coming games.

Up the Diamonds!
