Qachay Abbasov netted a classic hat-trick as Diament Garwolin eliminated Division 2 side Madrid DT from the Dutch Cup in their latest underdog victory!

The Madrid manager put forward a squad made almost exclusively of under 23s, but with the experienced Mirsad Jaho between the sticks, they were still expected by most to outmatch our Division 4 team. The pundits were soon silenced, however.

It took only 11 minutes for Flisnik to smartly find Abbasov on the edge of the box, and the Azerbaijani fired low past the keeper for the opening goal. However, within 10 minutes, the young guns from Madrid were level, courtesy of a beautiful long range drive from Anastase Baumont.

The Diamonds kept pushing, and after some lovely tiki-taka in the final third, Sneana threaded a clever through ball to Abbasov, who again made no mistake! The travelling Diament fans were ecstatic!

Just as the half was drawing to a close, our team threw what would prove to be a fatal punch, with Maciej Flisnik delivering to Abbasov from a throw in, and the latter firing a vicious shot from a tight angle to beat Jaho.

Eidesgaard put the Madrid team back in contention with a beautiful shot from outside the box, but it just wasn't enough to spark a comeback, and the Diamonds emerged victorious at the final whistle!

The Diamonds have now progressed in both cup competitions, in what is beginning to look like a very promising season!

Up the Diamonds!
