Diamonds in Newcomers' Challenge Final 8!

The Diament Garwolin senior squad exceeded expectations last season by a country mile, reaching the Newcomers' Challenge quarter finals and only going out to Division 2 side Farre VFC XI!

The Diamonds enjoyed a lengthy run which saw them matched up against Holtbjerg FC in the round of 32. Rapid transfers were made to strengthen the side, with Dorcy brought into defensive midfield and San Gong returning to the club to play up front. It was a tightly fought game, with both sides creating good chances. In the end, it was Yao, rather than San, of the Gong family who bagged a brace to bring the team from 0-1 to 2-1, and for the first time ever, we were in the last 16 of a senior cup competition!

The subsequent tie was approached with no weight of expectation, as we were once again matched up against a very strong team in FC Rasserman. However, in an incredible turn of events, FC Rasserman ran into problems before the game, with many players leaving the club. This meant they could only come out onto the pitch with 8 players, and the Diamonds ran out comfortable winners with another brace from Yao Gong, 2 goals from centre-mid Sabino Francisco Baio and another from San Gong. Final scoreline: FC Rasserman 0, Diament Garwolin 5! The fans celebrated long into the night!

The quarter final game was away at Farre VFC XI, and in the end they proved much too strong for the Diamonds, eventually running out 3-0 winners with Garzelli and Chastakorlenka scoring the goals. Nevertheless, upon their return to Garwolin, the players were greeted by a force of grateful fans, who rightly recognised this run as a historic achievement.

Up the Diamonds!
