2018 - Year in Review

Written 30 December 2018, 18:20

As 2018 ends, we take a chance to look back at the club’s progress throughout the year.

2018 will be remembered fondly by Rhythm FC fans as the year the club won its first ever major trophy (major trophy being a domestic league, cup or international title). The fans had plenty to cheer about as the year progressed, slowly getting used to the taste of success as trophies came steadily throughout the year. A total of 12 trophies were won throughout the year. 4 Scottish Premier League titles, 7 Scottish Cups, and 1 Virtual Manager World Cup.

I joined back into the VM world in July 2018. The club had around170 million in bank balance and a 64,000 stadium capacity. I only had a short-term goal when I re-joined of just plainly building a team strong enough to win trophies. The longer I played, the more I adopted a longer-term approach of building an established world class club, rather than just fielding a world class team for a short period of time.

The primary agenda was to stabilise the economy of the club so that it is sustainable to maintain a world class team. This is only viable with a large stadium, so heavy investment into infrastructure was needed. the stadium was expanded from 64,000 seats to 91,600 throughout the year, which cost around 100 million.
It’s fair to say we were an underdog team in 2018, taking each trophy as a very pleasant surprise. However, we go into 2019 not hoping for success but expecting it.

Going into 2019 we have a squad capable of competing for major trophies through the first quarter of year. We expect the second quarter of 2019 to be used as a final rebuilding phase so that for the rest of 2019 and onwards, the team will be capable of competing for major trophies every single season. The aim is to maintain a Top 10 status throughout the latter part of 2019 and extending to the foreseeable future.

A target of 30 trophies has been set for 2019. It won’t be easy, and success won’t just come at once, but as we have been doing ever since I restarted playing this game, the overall club picture will improve very slightly each and every week.
