Vargas and Martinez retire

Written 20 April 2014, 20:03

Eugenio Vargas and Jorge Martinez will retire and "will not feature for the club this coming season".

Vargas flourished in central midfield, often on the right side, as he developed over 268 games at the club, and Jorge Martinez was a guaranteed starter at left back for all of his 271 appearances. Vargas scored 11 goals and Martinez just 1, many will remember his excellent free kick technique much linked to Juan Mata's style, but it wasn't enough to finish his penalty in the last 16 of the Copa Del Rey this season.

They will both be sorely missed, and will be joined by Acosta the goalkeeper who had a very positive short stint at the club, it is unknown whether he will feature again it depends on the club signing a replacement in time.

Vargas is likely to be replaced by Salazar and a change in formation will see a possible new signing come in to replace Martinez, according to Hazwoo Watezini.
