Trufflers United

The Golden Generation?

Written 12 March 2017, 23:05

As Hazwoo Watezini took his seat in the press conference in Tuscany this afternoon, there was a real sense of optimism in the room and a genuine belief that this group of players could achieve something special

The club has recently meandered in Division 2, Group 2, Italy however a consolidated squad is now ready to challenge for the title according to the gaffer. Back to back 9th place finishes has frustrated fans and pundits alike, however a consistent run of good form over the second half of last season has left the Tigers as short as 3-1 shots for promotion with some bookmakers such as Betunfairly and PatricksPower.

The club has switched to a new 3-5-2 formation, however Watezini has implemented a variety of changes in formation such as switches to 4-4-2 and 4-3-3 depending on game and circumstance, a flexibility pundit Clive Nichols condemned the squad for missing saying:

"When you look at the Aqua's, you see a beautiful stadium, beautiful fans and a manager who has taken the club so far. But now it's time for that next step. Custom tactics, better training and subtle transfer activity will all be key in taking United towards the promised land of major honours".

Watezini spoke of his recent contact with Rolf Bergstrom, manager of Newcastle U FC, recent Copa Do Brasil winners in consecutive seasons. Watezini and Bergstrom discussed tactics and plans for their respective clubs and the two teams will meet on Tuesday for a friendly at the Sir Kevin Keegan Stadium.

In terms of the state of the Trufflers United squad, the first team have all pinned down 3 year contracts with the option for extensions. Emil Styrnell, who has now played 321 times for the club, continues in goal, with an experienced back 3 of Ichimichi, McFarlane and Henzen in front of him.

The midfield 5 see's newly appointed captain Pierce Trimboli sitting just in front of the back 3. The Aussie had this to say on the clubs chances this season:

"It's been a great few seasons to be part of this team but I'm not happy - none of us are. What's important is elevating this club to be one of the top in the country and then the top in the world. It's where it deserves to be, it's where the fans deserve to be, and we feel wholeheartedly we can make it there. Anyone who doesn't shouldn't and isn't here."

Feisty words from the captain who is clearly motivated for the upcoming season. Felix Lynch and tricky winger Katsitadze continue either side of Trimboli. Elgesem plays in the centre of the park and the manager clearly has faith that the former Norway under 21 player can dictate the play from the middle. Pang Lo, last years player of the season, plays just in behind the red hot Nizaam Zhubin and strike partner Sundui Uranchimeg.

The aim for the season is clear: promotion. Luftliner have sponsored the club once again this season with a generous promotion bonus on the line to help the club in the future - now all that is left to deal with is the matches.

Young centre back pairing Sabil Khair and Roland Simpson have joined for a combined fee of 25,000 credits with more signings expected as Watezini looks to the future whilst the present is so bright.

The question is can this golden generation of Trufflers United players deliver? All will be revealed. Tune in to our first game of the season (Away at FC Neilsen FC tomorrow morning) live of TUTV.
