Sildegapet beginning to dream

Written 30 August 2012, 17:59

Chowdhury has told the press that the Cottagers are beginning to dream of an unbelievable return to Division 5. Just two seasons after their one season stay in division 7 when many pundits believed the club was going to fall into disrepair, Sildegapet are top of their league by two points and still have a game in hand against their nearest challengers. Even though they have lost more times than the team in third, their lack of draws means they have picked up points where others have only picked up one.

Their most recent victory came against Dem Som Ingen Slår who are starting to be drawn into the relegation scrap. The whites had a field day at the Sejsle Stadium slotting six past Xin Damiran who was probably their best player. January signing Raffaello Velona looks very comfortable in a white shirt and has proved an invaluable asset in the midfield. However, the day belonged to the strikers as Egil Ingebriktsson, Josef Kiestra and Are Kristoffersen all shone with two goals apiece to their name. Meanwhile, Félix Pinheiro also starred in the midfield area.

Their toughest game was undoubtedly against SUPER UNITED BB who were also trying for the promotion places but were starting to lose ground on the two run away leaders. The Cottagers were hoping though to open this gap with a victory at the Cottage but they were stunned when just 10 minutes into the match, Pedro Dominguez scored the opening goal of the match. Although the Cottage fell into a shocked silence, it was not against the run of play.

The response though was immediate. Egil Ingebriktsson scored his ninth goal of the season in the league in stunning style, smashing home a free kick from the edge of the box. From then on it was one way traffic and the winner seemed only moments away for most of the match. And it came from Josef Kiestra's twelve goal of the season in the 78th minute. Sildegapet sealed all three points and left their opponents five points adrift of the top of the table.

Sildegapet still have twelve games to go in which they could still lose the title they have fought so hard for up until this point. But as Chowdhury said, We are beginning to dream. Dream of proving everyone wrong and taking the title. Anything less and we shall be upset. However, they should be careful with a difficult end to the season in which they play most of the top ten.
