ONT Results and League Update

Sildegapet have been rejuvenated in the league this season, currently lying fourth in the league, far better than they have been doing in recent months. The whites have only lost two matches and drawn one in a great vein of form. They are currently on the second longest undefeated run of the league, 12 matches without a loss. And this run of form has carried into the ONT.

In the first of four matches this season, they drew 2-2 with Weston Workers Bears. The home side were far the better side going forward, and Chowdhury knew that. However, in the 19th minute, Michael Guttenberger, a home grown forward, nicked the ball and powered forwards, chipping the goal keeper to earn a lead for the whites. For the rest of the half, the whites were largely chasing shadows, all but Roger Guttenberger who seemed to know exactly where the ball was destined every time it cam towards him.

Sildegapet appeared after the break in much better form, Hans Rudolf Imfeld seemed to be everywhere on the pitch, blocking a shot from the opposition on the line before sprinting down field, only to miss the target. However, his hard work paid off, forcing the goalkeeper into an uncharacteristic error to give away a corner. From the resulting set piece, Imfeld was the highest to rise and directed the ball into the far hand corner.

From that moment on, however, it was Weston Workers who pounded on the door. Two fabulous saves from Roger Guttenberger kept the score at 2-0, but he was unable to reproduce this quality ten minutes later. David Rutherford who had had a quiet game beforehand, broke the offside trap, rounded the keeper and slotted home. With just ten minutes left, Chowdhury urged his side to calm down, but inexperience came to pass as they pressed to high up the field in search of a third, only to find that Elton Lacey had broken. In the 59th minute he chipped the goalkeeper in similar fashion to Michael Guttenberger, to equalise the game. There was to be no further late drama.

In their second game of the tournament, Sildegapet were again outplayed, but valiant defending held the score at 0-0 until the 81st minute, when once again they conceded twice two minutes. Chowdhury admitted after the match that it was frustrating to be conceding late goals.

In the league, they have also been scoring goals for fun, Hans Rudolf Imfeld has scored 31 so far, Demetrius Matyas 20, Julius Sutter 13, Olda Lostak 9 and Choma Ivanov and Felix Pineheiro in equal fifth with 4 goals each.
