Sildegapet are promoted

It was a joyous day for Sildegapet fans across the globe as the whites were promoted to division 4 for the first time in over 30 seasons.

Sildegapet and won 14 of their first 14 fixtures to set up a commanding position in the league. However, a couple of poor results saw league rivals catch up with the whites. However, a set of good results saw the Cottagers take a 2 point advantage over their only rivals for the last remaining promotion spot. FC BEATLES UNITED kept the pressure on Sildegapet by beating Team Idiot 1-0, but the Cottagers dispatched Swansea Dt 4-0 to set up a tense final day at the Cottage, for FC Beatles United were visiting.

A draw or a win would certainly see Sildegapet FC promoted. The game started brightly with chances at both ends, Bart Peeters missing by not more than a couple of inches with a long range effort and Andre Guttenberger hit the post from a corner. The game really sparked into life when Vagn Rosbjerg burst into the area, latching onto a long ball. He taped it over the onrushing Guttenberger to put the party on the banks of the fjord on hold. Although Sildegapet were then dominant in possession, they found that their opponents were virtually impossible to break down.

After half time, Sildegapet fans were still biting their nails, having missed out on promotion twice recently, they could not bear to see their team get so far and lose out at the last hurdle. However much they pressed they always seemed to be lacking a final killer pass. By the 80th minute the only notable shots had come from some range, the first effort spectacularly beaten away by Abdul Kadir from Michael Guttenberger, while chances for Andre Guttenberger and Imfeld both went over the cross bar. However, in the 81st minute, as the stadium grew quieter and quieter, the moment of magic that every fan had bee praying for came. A pass across field by Avikar Duchin, a star performer this season, saw Andre Guttenberger unleash a sot that traveled straight past everyone and almost burst the back of the net. Certainly the goalkeeper was powerless to do anything but watch. With Sildegapet back in the advantage seat, their opposition began to frantically push forward. Bart Peeters hit the post when he ran in behind the Sildegapet defence and Vagn Rosbjerg managed to force Guttenberger into an incredible double save from a corner with just 3 minutes of normal time remaining. However, as United pushed for a winner, Sildegapet began to break well, with Imfeld and both Guttenberger brothers having good chances to kill off the game. All went wide. In the last minute of stoppage time, a United freekick saw the ball loose in the penalty area. Vagn Rosbjerg had a shot which was punched away by a sprawling Guttenberger but the rebound was poked back towards goal by Degas, only to see his shot rebound off the post. What happened then was extraordinary, Nicklas Eiskjær managed to miss from 3 yards out, hitting the crossbar. The danger was not cleared however, and Kerim Sener's shot had to be cleared off the line by Félix Pinheiro. From there, he closed down the ball, and began to break down field. His shot was well saved however and put out for a corner. From the corner, Sildegapet only had two players forward. Although Karl Flach Schmied's corner was initially headed away, Imfeld, who had scored 67 goals in the league so far, bought the ball under control and, with the last kick of the game, killed off the tie with a curling shot that beat a despairing Kadir and to confirm promotion.

Congratulations to all, and although next season should be tough, our aim is too survive. This season was extremely good and showed the depth of the team. Well Done.

Imfeld finished the season with the golden boot of the league and and player of the season award for his exceptional season in which he scored 70 goals in 34 matches.
