Sildegapet triumphant

Sildegapet FC have lifted the ONT Wooden Spoon Cup for the first time in their history, having beaten previous holders Diament Garwolin 1-0 away from the Cottage before dispatching them 4-1 in the home leg to begin the Swiss party.

Sildegapet largely dominated the first leg but we're unable to break down the Garwolin back four but still managed to take a lead and crucial away goal into the second leg when Messerli curled a shot into the far corner.

On the return leg, there was already a party atmosphere in the air despite the tie not being over. However, the party mood was only to grow when whites top scorer Imfeld slotted home from five yards to open the scoring. However the mood suddenly swung into a nervous quiet lockdown after Garwolin took the initiative and equalised. Lasha Megreladze found Pinheiro napping nicked the ball, rounded the keeper and calmly put the ball between the sticks.

However, after half time there were to be no fairy tales for the Garwolin side. Baumann struck just ten minutes into the second half with a terrific lob before Messerli and Fritz Zuber both were given tap ins after good work by Arnold and Roshardt leading to two further break away goals.

Considerations go to their opponents, Diament Garwolin after certainly putting some nervous looks on the faces of supporters, but from the Cottage chants of 'the Spoon is coming back home' rang loud and clear around the Cottage. Well done Sildegapet, congratulations after all those hard months of work since the Diament Garwolin side thrashed the whites 14-1 on their way to victory
