The Record Falls

Written 21 March 2014, 16:58

Yrjo Paakkonen has seen his record of 2,666 appearances for the club fall this season, far earlier than could have ever been anticipated, as current club captain, and international goalkeeper Taavi Litmanen passes the marker with no signs of throwing in the towel just yet. Litmanen is at a mammoth 2,670 appearances for Dynamo Groby, the only club he has represented in his career, and is well on course to clear the 2,700 mark. His presence as a safe pair of hands in the Dynamo goal has seen the club through a remarkable period of its history, as the Finnish project took hold and took off. Litmanen represents the final surviving member of the first wave of Finnish youths developed into a team at Vale Park alongside former record holder, Yrjo Paakkonen. Whilst it seems unlikely that Litmanen will become the first Dynamo player to clear the 3,000 game mark, it is certain that his record will set the bar high, and be incredibly difficult for those following in his footsteps to beat.

What the hell how do you keep a player interested to stay in the game aged 39,every oldie I buy over 30 always quickly retire on me even @ the age of 31/32. Is there a trick to stop the players calling an early retirement?

No idea. I feel I've just been lucky with him. Perhaps he's determined to set an appearance record no-one else will beat for a long time.
