City of Ely F.C were confirmed as champions of division 5 after a energetic, frightful last two matches secured them this season's title.

The team required just four points from there last two matches to guarantee them the league title, but they went further then that, and grabbed all six points to secure them the league. First, they played, the then, top of the league side and required at least a point to put them in control of the title race, but secured an intense, close-fought 1-0 victory, thanks to a 79th minute strike to win them the league. With the title already won with a game in hand, Tate, manager of City of Ely, ensured that his players did not get complacent and to go and "win there final game with flair, spark and confidence". He refused to lose, and that happened as his side won their final game of the season with comfortable dominance, winning 2-0.

Alfie Tate said after the game:

"It's a great achievement for everyone involved at the club. Management, staff, players, and especially the fans who thoroughly deserve everything we've achieved this season. I knew we would win the title. I always said we would. I told them, before we played first place, to go out and play like we did in our last game. Flair, spark, energy and especially, confidence. Confidence won us the game that match. We had the confidence, to try new things, make difficult passes and try different shots. It worked excellently for us and won us the game. You have to give credit and praise to the way the players entered and approached the game, because it was in front of a huge crowd, under huge pressure trying to secure the title for the city of Ely, and for all the fans who have been supporting us this season. We only needed a draw, but the players never aim for a draw. They aim for the win, because that kind of mentality is just the way they've been brought up as players and it's probably in their blood."

City of Ely F.C must now look to secure their place in division 4 and build apon what they achieved last season. After this unexpected, successful season they had, they will be full of confidence and looking to push on again.

"Next season? I don't know. Anything is possible. Promotion won't be an option for us though as the gap between division 5 and 4 are huge. Financially and ability wise. We don't make the income other teams do, and the ability of the players in this division are much better compared to division 5. It will be fun, but a huge challenge for the entire club."
