Season 2019-43 was a tremendous success for Lokomotive Bryggen. In its fourth consecutive season in Die Bundesliga, Bryggen was never really in danger of relegation. Already in the 2nd match of the season, fans got a sense of what was coming: The most dominating club in Germany, Spanager IF (nine championships in the last 11 years) was sent home from Bryggen Arena with a 4-2 defeat. When the dust cleared, Bryggen found themselves in 7th position with a total of 45 points. Both are all-time highs for the club. Bryggen also finished with a positive goal difference for the first time in its Bundesliga presence.

Bryggen’s triumphs weren’t limited to the league. For the first time in six attempts, the team was able to win a match in the World Cup. Due to a goal from Israeli central striker Ephraim Weil in extra time, Bryggen beat Pyllerne 1-0 away to advance to the second round. AFC Leeds United was the opponent in front of a crowd of 38K fans at Bryggen Arena in that second round and again fans could not believe their own eyes. Danish striker Alfred Bramskov scored a beautiful goal in the 8th minute and somehow Bryggen’s defense denied Leeds for the rest of game. Not unexpected the 3rd round was the end of this year’s adventure at the hands of Ulm Warhawks.

The DBF-pokal was not without Bryggen influence either. Despite drawing six away matches out of six, Bryggen was able to go to the Quarter finals where Spanager IF made a stop to Bryggen’s campaign.

One new face was seen at the club this season. Close to 8M (a new club record) was spent on bringing 29 year old Slovak Aleksandern Jurkovic to Bryggen Arena replacing Leonard Bryce at right midfield. Bryce (392 games for Bryggen) was shipped to the Dutch Division 2 for 3.9M.

Financially the 2019-43 season wasn’t a similar success. Chief Dealer Lick Neeson explains: “The market has been extremely hard to operate in for some seasons now, and we only brought in 5M. We did however break a club record as we made 2.3M on one single deal. That saved the season somewhat”. All in all, earnings stood at 7.7M

We wish Lokomotive Bryggen the best of luck in the coming season. We suspect that the goal is to avoid relegation once again
