Most untrained are indeed rubbish, but sometimes what you'll find is some go to auction before being trained. I thought this may be because the game knows they have a high rating. Turns out it wasn't that and after paying 300k, he was a dud. Yet to stumble across a world beater but I picked up this guy https://www.virtualmanager.com/players/14784630-hreidar-baldursson yesterday, so they are still worth looking for for mid-lower ranking teams.
Also you'll find a few of them are 17 or older, unless they are brilliant, not worth keeping as value will never get anywhere without a top training ground
