Release retiring players for free

For those of us who wish to release a retiring player, why should it cost credits. You pay the wages up front. If I was paid wages, said I was retiring and was told you don't have to work the week out, I wouldn't expect severance pay.

I agree. Plus then you can buy more players using more credits, rather than losing say 500 C by firing a player.
