So,
here's an off the wall thought, ...
Maybe the winner of a competition could then be put in charge of his "National Team" and you could get some International tournaments set up!
If Club managers would have to agree to release their players for International duty, there would have to be an incentive to do so, (maybe including, but not limited to, a payment of XXX% of his contract wage?), unless the International matches didn't include the possibilities of suffering injuries or suspensions, and there was no energy depletion for players involved in them.

Whether the log ins get given to top vifa ranked teams and and after that, the next highest ranked on waiting list for a given country. Keep the manager changing in 4 season cycles. Could achieve this by international banning managers who have had a go. Not indefinitely but for a set period.
Could build forums and communities around the teams and any tournaments
