New Positions

Can you change a players position from say defender to forward and how would that change over time if stayed in new position?

No you can't change a players position. When you create youth players you can define a general category, i.e. Keeper, Defender, Midfielder or Forward but not a specific position except Keeper.

Depending on your favoured formation, you may find certain player positions offer more versatility in terms of available green squares.

There is some info somewhere, but I think if you position a player on a yellow square they lose 25% effectiveness. On a red square I think it's 50%. I don't know how you actually interpret this. Possibly, an 80 rated player will be 60 rated on yellow and 40 rated on red?
