Simpler and better

Rasmus Rønn Nielsen, The Dudes 18 April 2013, 13:44

Yesterday, we published the beta version. Since then, we've gotten quite a lot of feedback.

We cannot possibly respond to it all. Instead, we'll trying blogging about the things that is talked the most about.

A recurring thing in the debates is that we need to add this and that: Custom formations editor, per-player instructions (like in the old tactic editor), role lists per tactic, finer handling of suspended players, more detailed bench, more varied player abilities, etc.

This critique was expected. The new features is an attempt to simplify the game. You cannot do that by removing different aspects from the game. Of course some people would be upset.

The old tactics editor and match simulator was designed around the idea of getting as many features in as possible. Hereby giving the user more freedom to customise everything.

Since then, we've learned that there an enormous disadvantage to that strategy: We can't dedicate enough time and love to each detail simply because there's too much work. The product end up being sloppy.

So the reason we've removed a lot of stuff was actually rather deliberate. We no longer wanted to compromise the quality.

We'd rather have 10 thorough features than 30 sloppy ones.

We still want to hear your feedback. We learn something from every word. But when people ask "can you please just add X to the game?" we often have to say no. We can't without comprising quality.

We're fully aware that some of you do not agree with this prioritisation. But nonetheless, that is what we believe would make the best product for the most people.

Quality above quantity :)
