Update of the match simulator

Rasmus Bang Grouleff, Bangs United Developer 5 August 2013, 14:19

Like with the last update of the match simulator, we're still only 50% of the workforce in the office because of summer holidays. But we are of course still pressing on to get it finished, even though it's at a slower pace until we're all back in the office.

Because of the summer holidays, this update mainly consists of several smaller changes and tweaks in several different parts of the match simulator. They should, however, still generally improve the whole experience.

The update includes the following:

  • Highlights have been overhauled: We've changed which incidents can start a highlight and mixed it up a bit. This means throw-ins, freekicks and corners can appear in the beginning of highlights. We still have some work to do, though, with teaching the players how to behave when corners are taken.
  • Improved player behaviour: Players can feel despair when their team gets behind. If the ball slows down more than anticipated during a pass, the receiver is now able to run towards the ball rather than just waiting in vain.
  • The camera man is smarter: When a highlight starts, the camera starts where the action is, instead of starting where it was when the last highlight ended.
  • Improvements in the match viewer: When a player is tackled in the moment he is about to kick the ball, he will no longer repeatedly kick the air. We've also made several small performance optimizations that should make the match viewer run a bit smoother.

Unfortunately I can't show you how I am beating FC Sunnyvale to smithereens, but in this hopeless loss, you can get a taste of the new update.

If you want to try it out your self, you can of course challenge others to a friendly.

Updated August 7th: A couple of minor errors have been fixed, and the match between Bangs United and FC Sunnyvale has been played again.
