What's the criteria for national teams?

Hi everyone,

Was checking through my players and realised that a sub for my youth team is a national u17 player. I was a little surprised given that he barely plays and doesn't necessarily have great stats compared to others.

So made me wonder what is the criteria for players playing for a national side?

Am I missing something with this player lol

I do wonder the same sometimes! I had an U17 England keeper who wasn't very good, didn't make U23 and is only rated about 52 at age 26! I believe it's done by stats as in all his keeper stats were really high but his speed and leadership's bits were literally still 0-5

It’s one of the roughly 5-6 players in that position group for a country. Yours is towards the end of his time at 17, so there must just be a lack of stronger players in England for that position right now. A lot of times you will see weaker players like that making the U17 squads in very small countries where the competition is less for those spots.
