Option to have a dark(er) background

Dear VM
Many people have light-sensitivity issues and staring at a white screen for periods at a time is problematic, causing eye-strain and potentially worse. Most of the screens on VM have (bright) white backgrounds. I wonder if you could introduce something like Facebook has ("dark-mode"smiley to give the option of a darker colour background screen at some stage? Of course, one can turn the brightness down on your screen (phone or Monitor), but it's a bit of a nuisance having to do this when loading VM, them turning the screens back to normal again for other applications etc. when you leave VM.
Thank you for considering,
Rolf

Hey Rolf.
Are you able to change your phone to dark mode, I literally have what you're wanting, due to changing my phone to dark mode?

Why hasn't this been done yet? The predominantly white screen hurts my eyes, am I the only one?
It's over 2 years since I originally requested this. For those with light sensitivity, this is actually quite important. (And I mean on computer screens, not phones).

I believe the developer is currently working on a 'dark mode' option, but I'm unsure on the timeline.

In the meantime to stop having to change your settings manually prehaps you could try a browser plugin such as this: https://darkreader.org/
