I've read the manual but not sure what would happen in the event a youth player hits 24 and needs to move to the senior squad but there is no space if it's full at 22 players?

He will still be promoted, increasing your senior squad to 23.

What would happen if you had 20 players who all turned 24 on the same day, would the senior squad have 42 players? Would you still be free refill your youth squad?
If so, it's possible to have 62 players at a time.
