Huge news from Vale Park today, as long standing Dynamo centre back, Yrjo Paakkonen announced his retirement after a mammoth career at Dynamo Groby, spanning more than 2,500 games, and the entirety of the Finnish Project.

Truly a Dynamo legend, Paakkonen was in the heart of the defence through the long climb back up the leagues system, the move to the Scottish league, a run to the NCC Cup Final, winner of one ONT Final, and has a runner up medal from two further ONT Cup's. The longest serving player in Vale Park history so far, he has set the bar incredibly high for others to follow. Fans organisation Suomi Laturi has issued a short statement, thanking Yrjo for his unbending commitment to the Groby cause, and for his long service at the club. They will be concentrating on organising some testimonial style friendly games in the meantime, to celebrate his career at Vale Park, with the help and blessing of the club manager and directors.

Yrjo Paakkonen himself has issued a short statement, thanking the club for giving him a chance to shine all that time ago, and for the experiences he's had at Vale Park. He also thanked the fans for their support during his career.

Glad to be playing against you in Paakkonen Testimonial. Suomi Laturi, what a perfect name for a fan organization smiley

Roughly translates as Finland Dynamo, though probably not officially. My poor Finnish skills, obviously. smiley

Yeah, I asked Yushi about it. But I cheated a little, and used dynamo, like a dynamo generator, apparently. smiley
