Welcome to our new Community Manager

Bubbles, FC Sunnyvale Developer 4 November 2021, 11:52

I have mentioned earlier in the blog that I was exploring the possibility of getting someone to help me structure my communication with both managers and crew.

Occasionally there are long periods where I am just buried in code and boring administrative tasks for a very long time where it's hard finding the time to write blog posts and seek dialogue.

That's why I've now hired Liam, aka FC Apollyon, as a Community Manager.

Liam started playing Virtual Manager 16 years ago and has recently returned after a break. He has previously been part of the crew, and has many years of experience as a Community Manager for other online games.

In the near future we will work on defining exactly which responsibilities a Community Manager in Virtual Manager should have.

First and foremost, he will be the one who keeps his ear to the ground, and makes sure that things that require my attention also get it - but he must also act as a filter so that I don't get overwhelmed and can concentrate on development.

He will also be the one to lead the discussions we will set up when there is a need for feedback on a potential major change in the game.

Finally, he will also all the feedback that comes in via many different channels, and condense it into initiatives that we can take action on - with a special focus on initiatives that provide the greatest improvements in gameplay with as little development as possible.

The role of Community Manager will also include the tasks that the administrator has today. In the near future, we will try to reduce the administrative tasks with initiatives such as automation, better crew tools, etc., as I want the Community Manager to spend as much of his time as possible on initiatives that improve the game.

On December 31st, after almost 6 years on the post, our current administrator, Jeppe, will step down and continue in the crew as a supporter. He will be taking his final exams next year, and wants to dedicate himself fully to that. Right now, Jeppe and Liam are working together on the administrative tasks so that Liam can get off to a good start. They will also be looking at ways to streamline the crew work.

I have great expectations that with the hiring of a Community Manager we will be able to create much more life in the game, and focus on the areas that are most important to you.
